Your license plate has a search history. Most people think a Flock camera just reads your plate and moves on, but this federal case shows what happens next. A Tulsa deputy saw a California-plated SUV and, before he pulled it over, typed the plate into two license plate reader databases (one is Flock) and pulled up where that car had been. He didn't have to follow it to California. The cameras had already done the remembering. From the filings: the search didn't return one photo, it returned a history. Per the defense, it “traced the movements of the vehicle across weeks, multiple states, hundreds of miles,” with locations, dates, times, and direction, and it happened before the deputy observed the traffic violations he'd later use to stop her. The question isn't whether police can see your plate once, it's what happens when thousands of public observations are stored, connected, and searchable weeks later.
