Privacy policy

When you visit

Like any website, we receive your IP address and basic details of each request when you visit, such as the page requested, the time and your browser type. Tik Ghost runs on Cloudflare, which processes this information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Our server logs are kept for up to seven days and are used to find and fix problems. We also use your IP address for rate limits, which count requests over about a minute so that no one can overload the site.

Downloads and exports

When you download a video, audio, photo or profile picture, the file streams from TikTok through our server to your device, and no copy is kept. The video made from a photo post is created in your browser.

Exports are put together in your browser, one page at a time, and saved to your device. Export files are never stored on our servers. To enforce the limit of 30 exports a day, we store a salted hash of your IP address, not the address itself, with the number of exports started that day. These records are deleted automatically once they are a day or two old.

Before an export, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the request comes from a person. Cloudflare processes signals from your browser for this check under its own privacy policy. So that the check is ready when you need it, pages with an export button may load its script in advance.

After a successful check, your browser keeps an export pass in its session storage. For 30 minutes, it lets further exports in the same tab skip the check. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab.

Public TikTok data

When you look up an account or a video, our server fetches the public data from TikTok on your request. It is kept in a short-lived cache for 5 to 30 minutes, so the same request doesn't go to TikTok again and again, and then it expires. We don't build profiles of TikTok users.

Follower and following lists are normally fetched by our own systems. When that fails, they may be requested through a third-party data provider, which then receives the public identifier of the account being looked up, and nothing about you.

TikTok's player and images

Video pages embed TikTok's official player, which loads from tiktok.com. TikTok may set its own cookies and collect data through it under TikTok's privacy policy. If you are also logged in to TikTok in that browser, the view may be recorded on your TikTok account.

Profile pictures, video thumbnails and other images load straight from TikTok's servers, which receive your IP address and browser details as a result. Your browser is asked not to tell them which Tik Ghost page you are on.

Cookies and browser storage

Tik Ghost itself sets no cookies. The only thing we keep in your browser is the export pass described above. Cookies from TikTok's player are covered by TikTok's privacy policy.

If you own an account shown here

Tik Ghost only shows content that is public on TikTok. Account owners can ask us to stop showing their account, or a single post. To check that an account is theirs, we ask them to put a short code we send in their TikTok bio for a while, and then we block the account or post from lookups. The contact page has the details.

Children, changes and contact

Tik Ghost is not directed to children under 13.

We don't use analytics or advertising at present. If we decide to add either, we will update this policy before we do. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
