Yes, you can see who viewed your TikTok story. TikTok shows you the total number of views and the accounts that watched each story. Tap your profile photo at the top of your Following feed, inbox or profile, go to the story and swipe up. Viewers show up there even if their account is private or their profile view history is off.
How to See Who Viewed Your TikTok Story
Every story you post gets a view count and a list of the accounts that watched it. You'll find both on the story:
- In the TikTok app, tap your profile photo at the top of your Following feed, your inbox or your profile.
- Go to the story you want to check. The total number of views is at the bottom.
- Swipe up to see who viewed it.
Do Viewers Appear Even With Profile View History Off?
Yes. TikTok says people can see you viewed their story even if your account is private or your profile view history is turned off.
Post view history doesn't change it either. TikTok keeps story view history separate from post views, so turning post views off doesn't hide you.
That's a real difference from profile views. Profile view history only works for people 16 and older with fewer than 5,000 followers, and it only lists visitors who have the setting turned on too.
TikTok's Stories article doesn't mention any limits like that for story viewers.
So if you watch a story in the TikTok app while you're logged in, expect the creator to see your account on the list.
The list only holds TikTok accounts, though. Tik Ghost's story viewer shows public stories without using any account, so there's no account of yours to add.
It can't show friends-only stories or stories from private accounts. And story photos and covers there still load straight from TikTok's servers, so TikTok sees your browser's requests for them.
Who Can See Your TikTok Story?
Possibly a lot more people than your followers. TikTok shows stories on your profile, in people's inboxes and in the For You and Following feeds.
Each story also has its own audience setting, like any other post. You can share it with everyone, limit it to friends (followers you follow back) or keep it to yourself.
A friends-only story can only be watched by friends, so only friends can end up on its viewer list.
A private account starts from a smaller circle, since only people you've approved can follow you and see your posts.
You choose a story's audience when you post it, with the Settings button on the preview screen. To change it on a story that's already up:
- In the TikTok app, go to your story from your Following feed, inbox or profile.
- Tap the Share button at the bottom, then tap Settings.
- Choose who can view it.
How Long Do TikTok Stories Last?
A TikTok story stays up for 24 hours. After that it disappears, unless you've saved it to a Highlight.
You can also take one down early: open it, swipe up, tap Delete and confirm.
TikTok's Help Center doesn't say whether you can still see a story's viewers once the 24 hours are up. If you want to know who watched, check while the story is live.
How to Keep a TikTok Story Longer Than 24 Hours
Add it to a Highlight. Highlights keep stories on your profile past the 24 hours, grouped under a name and cover image you pick.
A Highlight has the same audience as the story in it, so a story you shared only with friends stays friends-only there too. To make one from your profile:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Create Story Highlights button.
- Pick the stories you want from your Story archive, then tap Add.
- Choose a cover image and a name, then publish it to your profile.
Can People Reply to Your TikTok Story?
Yes, by direct message or with an emoji reaction. Replies from friends (followers you follow back) land straight in your inbox, and everyone else's arrive as message requests.
Your direct message settings control who can reply.
Replies are direct messages, and TikTok doesn't offer direct messages to users aged 13 to 15, whether their account is public or private.
