How to Turn Off Profile Views on TikTok

To turn off profile views on TikTok, tap Profile, then the Menu ☰ button, then Settings and privacy. Tap Privacy, then Profile views, and switch Profile view history off. It's off by default, so you only need to do this if you turned it on. Once it's off, you won't see who viewed your profile, and others won't see your visits.

How to Turn Off Profile Views on TikTok in Settings

TikTok calls the feature profile view history, and the switch is in your privacy settings. Here are TikTok's steps:

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy, then Profile views.
  4. Switch Profile view history off.

Two Shortcuts to the Same Switch

Your Profile views page has a Settings button at the top that takes you to the same switch. You can open that page from your profile or your inbox.

  • From your profile: tap Profile, then the Profile views button at the top. Tap the Settings button at the top of that page and switch Profile view history off.
  • From your inbox: tap Inbox, then Activities, then the notification that someone viewed your profile, or Profile views (you may need to scroll down). Tap the Settings button at the top and switch it off.

What Changes When Profile Views Are Off?

Two things change at once. You won't see who has viewed your profile, and other people won't see that you've viewed theirs.

Some things don't change. Stories have their own viewer list, and TikTok says people can see you watched their Story even with profile view history off.

Posts have a separate setting, post view history, under Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Post views. Even with that one off, a like or a comment still counts as a view for the creator.

Can You Hide Your Visits but Still See Your Viewers?

Not with TikTok's setting. It's one switch for both, so you can't keep your own list while hiding your visits.

What you can do is leave it on and look at a profile without your account.

One way is a private or incognito browser window, where you're not signed in to TikTok. Profile view history lists accounts, and in that window you're not using one.

TikTok only lets you browse logged out for a while before it asks you to log in, though.

The other is the lookup box above. Tik Ghost never uses your TikTok account, so your visit won't show up on anyone's list, whatever your setting is.

It's free and works for public accounts only.

Pictures and most videos still load straight from TikTok's servers, though. If you're logged in to TikTok in that browser, TikTok may be able to link what you watch to your account.

A private window avoids that too.

If You Turn Off Profile Views on TikTok After Viewing

TikTok's Help Center says that turning profile view history off means others won't see that you've viewed their profile. It also says people only see visits from accounts that have the setting on.

So going by what it says, once yours is off, you're not one of those accounts.

What it doesn't say is how fast that happens.

Their inbox can also show a notification that someone viewed their profile. TikTok doesn't say whether one that already arrived goes away when you switch yours off.

And if they checked their Profile views list earlier, they may have already seen you. Turning it off can't undo that.

Their setting matters too. If they turn theirs off after your visit, they can't see who viewed their profile anymore, you included.

If You Turn On Profile Views on TikTok After Viewing

Say you looked at someone's profile with the setting off and turned it on later. TikTok doesn't say whether that earlier visit shows up.

Its rule is that the list shows visits from the past 30 days by accounts with the setting on. It doesn't say whether visits made while yours was off count.

The 30-day limit is the part you can count on. A visit older than that doesn't show on anyone's list.

If there's a visit you'd rather they never see, wait until it's more than 30 days old before you turn the setting on.

How to Turn Profile Views Back On

Use any of the routes above and switch Profile view history on instead. It works both ways again from then on.

Visitors who have the setting on show up on your list, and your visits show up for anyone who has it on.

If you can't find Profile views in your privacy settings, check the limits first. The feature is only for people 16 or older with fewer than 5,000 followers.

And TikTok's Help Center only gives steps for the app, not the website.
