Does TikTok Notify When You Save a Video?

It depends on which kind of save you mean. TikTok's Help Center doesn't mention any notification when you save a video to your phone. Adding it to your Favorites is different. Likes and Favorites is one of the activity filters in a creator's inbox, so your favorite can show up there. Your Favorites list itself stays private.
What Counts as Saving a TikTok?
Save means two different things on TikTok.
The Favorite button, just below the comment button, adds a video to your Favorites. TikTok also calls it the Saved button.
What you favorite goes to the Favorites tab on your profile, where you can sort it into collections.
A favorite depends on the post staying up, though. If the creator deletes the video or makes it private, you may not be able to find it in your Favorites.
Save video is the other one. It downloads a copy to your phone's photo gallery, so you can watch it offline or share it outside TikTok.
You'll only see the option if the creator allows downloads. Depending on the creator's settings, the file may carry the TikTok watermark and their username.
- In the TikTok app, go to the video.
- Tap the Share button on the side, or press and hold the video.
- Tap Save video. The copy goes to your phone's gallery.
Does TikTok Notify When You Save a Video to Favorites?
It can. TikTok's notifications article lists four filters for the Activities section of your inbox, and one of them is Likes and Favorites.
Activities are where TikTok notifies you about things like likes and comments, so a favorite can land there too.
The Help Center doesn't say exactly what that notice shows.
Likes aren't anonymous, though. TikTok's post view history lists people who liked a post as viewers, whatever their own settings.
So if you'd rather the creator didn't know, play it safe and assume a favorite can be traced back to you.
Other people can't browse your Favorites. TikTok says only you can see the content you've favorited.
The exception is a collection you decide to share yourself, from the Share button at the top of it.
Can People See If You Download Their TikTok?
Nothing in TikTok's Help Center says they can. Its articles on saving videos and on the download setting cover what you can do with a copy and what the creator controls.
Neither says the creator is told who saved one, and downloads aren't in the notifications article either.
Creators just get numbers. TikTok Studio shows stats for each post, including likes, shares and views.
Save video sits in the Share menu, but TikTok doesn't say whether a download adds to the share count, so we can't say either way.
Watching is a different story. If you follow the creator and you both have post view history on, they can see that you viewed a post from the last 7 days.
Liking or commenting counts as a view no matter what your setting is. Post view history is only for people 16 and older with fewer than 5,000 followers.

The preview on the video page plays straight from TikTok's servers, though, so TikTok sees your browser's request for it.
And if you want to repost someone else's video, ask them first and give them credit.
Can Creators Turn Off Downloads on TikTok?
Yes. When a creator turns downloads off, Save video disappears from the Share menu on their posts.
TikTok says that if the option is missing, the creator doesn't allow it.
The setting covers everything they've already posted and everything they post later. Copies people saved while it was on stay on their devices.
Private accounts and anyone under 16 have downloads off by default, and they can't turn them on. Private videos can't be downloaded at all.
With downloads off, people also can't turn a video into a Live Photo or GIF or share it directly to some other apps. They can still share it as a link, or in direct messages on other apps.
To turn downloads off or on for your own videos:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy.
- Tap Privacy, then tap Downloads.
- Turn the Video downloads setting on or off.
How to Save a TikTok Without Posting
This one's about your own videos. You don't need to post a draft to keep a copy of it.
TikTok lets you save drafts straight to your phone, with no watermark unless you turn one on in your draft settings first.
You can also tap Save on the side panel while editing a video or photo. And when you do post, you can turn on Save to device under More options on the Post screen to keep an offline copy.
Drafts can vanish if you reinstall TikTok or move your account to a different device, so save the ones you care about.
- In the TikTok app, go to your Profile and tap Drafts.
- Tap the draft you want to save.
- Tap the More button at the top.
- Select Save to device.

Can people see your favorites on TikTok?
No. TikTok says only you can see the content you've favorited.
The one exception is a collection you share yourself.
Can you see who saved your TikTok?
Partly. Favorites can show up in your inbox activity under Likes and Favorites.
For downloads, TikTok's Help Center doesn't mention any way to see who saved a copy.
Does downloading a TikTok count as a share?
TikTok doesn't say. Save video is in the Share menu, but the Help Center doesn't explain whether a download adds to a post's share count.
Why did a video disappear from my Favorites?
The creator may have deleted it or made it private. TikTok says a saved post can also go missing if it was removed for breaking the Community Guidelines, or if the creator deleted or disabled their account.
Check your collections too, in case you saved it to one of those.
